About the client

Who FitCoachJas is.

FitCoachJas is a fitness coach with roughly 182K followers on Instagram. His content covers fitness education, weight loss, muscle building, nutrition, and general healthy-lifestyle advice.

His content strategy is built around lead generation as much as education. Many videos end with a prompt to comment a specific keyword, which triggers a free guide and moves viewers into his coaching funnel, where they can book consultation calls and purchase coaching.

Act I · The problem

The challenge.

Educational content is harder to hold attention on than pure entertainment. Viewers scroll fast, and if a video doesn't earn its first few seconds, the point it's trying to make never gets seen.

The brief was to edit four short-form videos that stopped the scroll quickly, kept an educational format watchable to the end, and supported the mechanic underneath the content: the comment-to-DM flow that turns a viewer into a lead.

  • Capture attention quickly
  • Improve viewer retention
  • Increase engagement
  • Encourage comments
  • Support the lead-generation funnel

Act II · The work

My approach.

01

Pacing built for scroll speed

Cuts are fast enough to keep up with how people actually move through Reels, without losing the clarity the educational content depends on.

02

Hook optimization

The first frame and first line of each video were treated as their own problem to solve, separate from the pacing decisions in the rest of the edit.

03

Caption and text hierarchy

Captions and on-screen text were sized and placed so the key point of each clip reads at a glance, even with the sound off.

04

Retention-focused rhythm

Cuts, zooms, and text timing were used to keep momentum through the educational middle section of each video, which is usually where attention drops.

05

Platform-specific optimization

Each edit was finished for Instagram Reels first, with framing and pacing that also holds up when repurposed to YouTube Shorts.

Act III · The numbers

The results.

This comparison is shown for context, not as a claim that the increase was solely because of the editing. Posting time, the hook idea itself, and platform distribution all affect a Reel's performance.
